What a coupon contains

An offer in a few words (“20% off”, “2-for-1”, “Free coffee”), a code to scan (by default the card number, or a code you write), an expiry date shared by all coupons or a number of days from issue, and a number of uses: just one, or several with a “1 / 3” counter on the card.

Colors and logo are yours, in French, English and Spanish. On iPhone the coupon lives in Apple Wallet; on Android, in Google Wallet, as an offer.

Handing it out

A sign-up QR code at the counter or on a poster: the customer types their name and the coupon lands in their wallet. You can also send the link by email, or give a welcome coupon to every new customer and a birthday coupon through an automatic rule.

To remind people about a coupon that’s about to expire, send a lock-screen message to a group of customers: for example those who hold the coupon and haven’t been in for a month.

Redeeming it, and what it doesn’t do

At the till you scan the coupon and tap “Use”: on the last permitted use it flips to “used” and stops working. Each person who signs up receives their own coupon.

The coupon is validated in store by scanning. It does not create a promo code in your online shop: the code shown is text the customer displays, with no link to Shopify discount codes.

Frequently asked questions

Can a customer use the same coupon twice?

Not if you set it to a single use: the scan marks it as used. With several uses, the number you set is the maximum.

Can I cancel a coupon that’s already out?

Yes. You can cancel it from the customer’s record, or let it expire on its date.

What does the customer see on their phone?

Your name, the offer, the code to scan and the expiry date, in your colors. They can get a lock-screen reminder if you send one.

Can I give the same coupon to hundreds of people?

Yes, through the sign-up QR or links: each person gets their own card, counted against your active-card limit.
