A balance, not stamps

The gift card has a balance in Canadian or US dollars, euros, soles or Mexican pesos, shown on the card with a code to scan. You set the starting amount in the template; to offer several amounts, create one template per amount ($25, $50, $100) or top the card up afterwards.

You can choose that it never expires, or that it expires on a set date or after a number of days. Check your province’s rules before setting a date.

How it travels

1. You take payment for the sale as usual (till, shop, transfer).

2. You issue the card from the dashboard and send the link by email, or show the QR code on screen.

3. When the recipient pays, you scan the card, type the amount spent, and the new balance shows up in their phone right away. A partial use leaves the rest available.

4. From its record you top the card up or deduct an amount, with a history of every movement.

Good to know

Krealo Wallet does not collect payment for the gift card: there is no online checkout for the buyer, and the card is not linked to Shopify’s native gift cards. It issues, tracks and spends the balance. The recipient needs Apple Wallet or Google Wallet; on Android the latter requires a Google account.

Frequently asked questions

Does the recipient need an account with me?

No. They open the link they received and add the card to their wallet; you only need their email if you want to send it directly.

Can I top up a gift card?

Yes. You add an amount from the card’s record and the balance updates in the phone.

What if the customer spends more than the balance?

The operation is refused: the balance can’t go negative. You collect the difference another way.

Can I track what has been spent?

Every spend and top-up is recorded in the card’s history. The total of outstanding balances shows in the statistics.
